Her latest release, Turn it Up is out now.  I love this song. When I hear it I think: This is what House Music is all about. If someone asked me to define the genre I would play this song. Flashback Friday ~ Kevin Saunderson

It's time again for Flashback Friday.  Today we feature Kevin Saunderson who first appeared in the House Music scene in 1988 with his hit The Sound.  The track which he is giving away is now subject of a copyright infringement suit.  First I'll post some old school classic house acid house vids so you can check out the music then I'll post KS open letter explaining the situation.

Dear friends, fans and members of the music industry

Today I’m giving away as a free download one of the productions I am most proud of:

“The Sound” - Reese & Santonio (1987, KMS Records)

I recorded “The Sound” back in 1987 and released it on my own KMS Records label. It was a massive hit at New York’s Paradise Garage and in Chicago and of course Detroit. Once it hit the UK it became one of the earliest Detroit anthems all around Europe, a huge underground record across the globe - a true desert island techno track. It is such a special record to me because it was one of my first really successful productions and I hope that you all will enjoy this free, fresh digital download of my original 1987 version.

The reason I have decided to give this track away for free is because of a situation that recently developed involving the unauthorized sampling of “The Sound” by Italian producers Giacomo Godi & Emiliano Nencioni (Supernova) in their release “Beat Me Back” on Nirvana Recordings. It came to my attention that they are licensing and selling, with considerable success, this track which is nothing more than a continuous loop of the main hook from “The Sound.”

For me to hear ‘Supernova’ taking an extended loop of “The Sound” and claiming that this is their own original composition and production is both dishonest and disrespectful. My first thought was that they were perhaps naïve, but as they have apparently been recording together since 2002 this seems unlikely. In any event this is completely unacceptable, we cannot continue to let this kind of wholesale rip off go unchallenged and tolerate “artists” who completely sample recordings, add nothing of their own and then release the results as their own work.

I have a huge affection for sampling, it’s how some of the most inspiring and ground breaking tracks of our times were created. We’ve pretty much all sampled records at some time, and cleared the sample so we can use it on our releases, but it is just not cool to take someone else’s music, create a big old loop of it and then put your name on it and try to have success entirely off the back of another artist’s efforts. This really has got to stop. For this reason, I have uploaded the Godi/Nencioni version of “The Sound” to Soundcloud so that you all can download this for free if you so wish. These producers and their record label should not be profiting from my back catalogue... this is not their track to sell.

Wacka Flocka has released a new version of 'No Hands' today. It's got a great party vibe.  The track is to debut for Miami's Winterfest 2011 Electronia Festival. Flocka will perfrom the record at this years Winterfest and the event will be televised by BET programming. The records was produced by disc jockey, Mikey Bo, and is now available for download and preview on the internet.

Have I told you how fabulous you guys are?  Well you're all that and a bag of chips.  Yesterday I asked you lovely's to send me videos and you did.

I will be posting them here for your viewing pleasure.

First up Elite Force sent a video of him tearing down the hoUSe @ Spain's Winter Festival last weekend.  He sure knows how to rock a party.  You will get hyped up to go out watching this one. The music in the video are previews of the upcoming MOTORSTORM : APOCALYPSE game for the PS3. There will be a series of extended mixes of these available April/May 2011 and the game itself is released on March 15th in Europe.


This next video is for FRESH brand new just released 'Sun & Moon', the first single from Above & Beyond's second artist album 'Group Therapy'. And a special tidbit that makes you appreciate the song even more: “Sun & Moon is really ‘Alone Tonight’ part 2. It’s a break-up song, but with a twist, namely the idea that even though relationships end in the physical world they live on in your memory forever" How cool is that? The poet in me is moved.

I stumbled upon your blog and I like it after seeing your recent post. I also enjoy Tiesto, David Guetta and other house and trance artists. Would you mind sharing with me who your all time favorite artist/musician is? Just curious! :)

Well first of all Sean T. never loose your curiosity, it's a good thing.
And wow that is a Big, big question.

OK easy answer: To know who my favorite House Music artists are all you have to do is subscribe to the blog.  This is MY spot, My hoUSe, mY music diary where I'm sharing all of the wonderful, beautiful music that I'm really digging at the moment.  Not only that but I love digging in the crates and pointing you to some old school Classic House joints you may not have heard before.  This is why I created For the Love of House Music because it truely is a passion from my heart. Music brings me so much joy I just can't contain it and I want to share that with you.

OK difficult answer:  My list of favorite artists can go on as the night is long.  So I'm going to give you just a few off the top of my head.

My all time favorite old school house music artists are: Todd Terry, Joey Negro, Crystal Waters & Deelite. BUT I also love techno so I can't talk old school without mentioning Prodigy or Josh Wink.

I also LOVE deep House Music and vocalists like Inaya Day, Barbara Tucker, la India, Martha Wash . . .

From the new school I like electronica: mstrkrft & deadmaus & i luv Dutch House with it's elements of Latin music. I love european DJ's like Guetta, Axwell & Gaudino.  I've been playing alot of Bennasi lately too. Luv me some Bennasi.

I know I forgot to mention a whole busload of artists but if I love it, you'll be seeing it on the blog.

Today I received an email from fellow househead Melanie D. I'm always down for a recommendation especially when it comes from one of our fabulous readers. :)  She recommended I check out her boy French Dj, Guillaume Delarge, member of the electro group Punky Blaster because he's talented, handsome and pretty funny.

OK Melanie, I did check out his JVH remix and I like it. There's a darkness in the song that grabbed me right away. I love how he followed it right through to the end. Well done. Nice remix.
