It's video time! Today we are having a back to back video session featuring Robbie Rivera.
Puertorican DJ Producer Robbie Rivera has been making music since the early 90's. He is known for his tribal progressive sound with a dose of latin flava. His latest album Closer to the Sun dropped this summer with notible singles; Let Me Sip My Drink feat. Fast Eddie, Rock The Disco and We Live For The Music.
He will be back in his home town of Miami for a Labor day show at the Ganservoort and after that you can catch him when he goes on his Rock the Disco tour beginning in October.

As promised here is more new music sweet lips before we take it back again to the fabulous classic house music of the 90's.
Today we are bumping Dennis Ferrer Hey Hey The Remixes. This original track is one I fell in love with from the moment I first heard it. You know this because I blogged about it back in February. It's one I can listen to again and again without getting tired of it and is still one of my top current favs.
Dennis Ferrer is no one hit wonder, this New Jersey native has so many hits under his belt you can spin a whole session without repeating. Here are just a few DF tracks you should definitely check out in no particular order: Church Lady, How Do I Let Go, Sinfonia Della Notte, I Can't Imagine, Colors and Touched the Sky.
You know I love a good video so today we have the official video below. The video is intense and very different from other dance videos. There's an original story with incredible performances that are emotionally moving which adds another layer to an already incredible song.

How are you today? I'm so happy to be sitting down writing this post cause I really need some cheering up today. No, more than that, I need my spirits lifted and music always makes me feel better.
I thought of this post over the weekend and I know you're going to love it too. THese are 5 classic house jointz from the 90's that will make you want to put on your doc martins (mine are knee high) or your worker boots and get to stomping. I'm not lying just you wait till you hit play and the baseline penetrates your eardrum making you're body start twitching until you can't hold back any longer. And there you are stomping like you've been doing it all you life. Be sure to plug in to a nice surround sound system. Ready? Here we go.

It's 1990, the beginning of the decade and you can hear house music evolving to include more sounds more instruments and sliced sampling of vocals. Now remember hip hop & base were also around during this time affecting house music with some badgrass deep, heavy, floor shaking, wall vibrating baselines. As you know, this weekend is all about Classic House Music specifically from the 90's. I've been having the best time digging in the crates. I found this spectacular joint in the archives and I had to run to share this one with you cause it's pretty amazing. I didn't even remember how much I really loved this hard, hi-N-Rg on the verge of techno joint.

It's a remix of a 70's classic rock song Black Betty by Ram Jam. One of my all time fav house music producers, Todd Terry working under the name of Tech Nine created this amazing hit and called it Slam Jam.

After some more digging I've found that the 1977 rock song was a remake of an even older version of the song whose earliest recording is from 1933 by U.S. musicologists John and Alan Lomax in 1933, performed a cappella by the convict James Baker (aka Iron Head) and a group at Central State Farm, Sugar Land, Texas.

Although that is the first official recording the song is even older. Black Betty is a 20th century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him. Some sources claim it is one of Lead Belly's many adaptations of earlier folk material, in this case an 18th century marching cadence about a flint-lock musket.

Some claim the song is derived from an 18th century marching cadence about a flint-lock musket with a black painted stock; the "bam-ba-lam" lyric referring to the sound of the gunfire. Soldiers in the field were said to be "hugging Black Betty". In this interpretation, the musket was superseded by its "child", a musket with an unpainted walnut stock known as a "Brown Bess".
So there ya go my house loving peeps, we are bumping to a song from the 1800's like only we can bump. jaja luvs it! ;)
